Chatuchak Market

Our first full day in Bangkok, Carol and I wanted to attack the Chatuchak Weekend Market.  It is only opened on Saturday and Sunday and many of our friends told us that we must check it out.  So, comfy shoes, backpacks, and a few bottles of water packed and we were ready for our adventure!

Once only popular among wholesalers and traders, Chatuchak Weekend Market has reached a landmark status as a must-visit place for tourists. Its sheer size and diverse collections of merchandise will bring any seasoned shoppers to their knees – this is where you can literally shop ‘till you drop’.
The 35-acre (68-rai) area of Chatuchak is home to more than 8,000 market stalls. On a typical weekend, more than 200,000 visitors come here to sift through the goods on offer. Veteran shoppers would agree that just about everything is on sale here, although not all at the best bargain rates.  -AsiaWeb

Vats of grease could be found all over the place.  These vendors rarely had a moment to relax as their food was being scooped up by hungry bargain shoppers!

There isn't anything you can't find here. We walked around for four hours and never got bored. Our feet were tired after awhile, but there was certainly never a dull moment! I knew there was a foot rub in my future!

Don't be fooled, there are certainly cheesy "Asian Stuff".  In fact, we came across a Disney stall.  Wonder how authentic it was?

Carol and I stopped to rest our tender tootsies and fill our bellies.  We shared a Southeast Asian favourite - Pad Thai.  Here, we paid 60 baht which was just around $2.00

DELISH!

Notice the cupcakes and fish right next to each other...

Fancy cut hot dogs, anyone?

Row upon row look just like this!

This adorable lady is selling popsicles

Here is a variety of the famous "fisherman pants"

Here is a picture of the treats I bought myself.  Not included are the gifts for some very avid blog followers!

Something tells me the next time I'm at this market will be when my mother begs and pleads me to take her.  Two words..."poor Dad"!
